Privacy in Asia: Building on the APEC Privacy Principles

This panel is a joint project among Keio University in Japan, Korea University in the Republic of Korea, and Beijing Normal University in the People's Republic of China designed to address evolving views and challenges in Asia with respect to privacy.  A planning meeting for the panel was held on the margins of a May 29-31 conference on "Cloud Computing and Big Data" hosted by Keio University.  A follow up session will take place during the Asia Regional IGF in Seoul. The panel will examine the diverse views on privacy within Asia and contrast them with the approaches taken in the US and EU, highlighting points of convergence and divergence in Asian approaches. It will also assess the success to date in implementing the APEC Privacy Principles and consider next steps.
