Fostering Quality Internet Contents: Using Contest Mechanism to Demonstrate Internet Best Practice

The joint WSA/Egypt/ISOC session at IGF addresses Internet content and best practice in running a contest mechanism/competition to promote the good use of Internet and network engineers, policy community, educators and creatives. The best practice workshop builds on the experience of the World Summit Award (WSA www.wsis-award.org) as a global initiative to select and promote the world’s best e-Content, started in 2003 in the framework of the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

This session discusses the requirements in various countries and markets to select and evaluate the best products and applications from around the world in the 8 categories of WSA and to have independent experts judge the outstanding examples of how Internet can strengthen for instance SME’s on the marketplace, support and optimize business and administrative processes and strengthen participation of citizens in information society decision making beyond past limitations. Key factors are reported and the processes of the WSA Grand Jury are presented in order to provide an informative overview of how Internet is made rich with a good use of e-content.
