The Internet of things : how to reach the first billion of objects

4 December 2008 - A Workshop on Other in Hyderabad, India

Original Proposal

The purpose of this workshop will be to discuss about a common vision of what could be the Internet of things and the related applications. They are already several visions: pervasive or ubiquitous computing, internet of things, machine-to-machine (M2M), smart dust, etc.
What will be the usages? Are these visions similar, complementary or distinct?
What is at stake regarding these visions in terms of access, openness, privacy and more generally of Internet governance?
What should be the leading principles to built the architecture of the Internet of things?
Can the management of the ONS learn something from the DNS management and can the DNS management learn something from the ONS and the existing object registries management?
